COD Softball grabs walk-off win over Eagles, 6-5

COD (3-15; 1-5) loaded the bases with one out in the seventh then got a hit to right field by Rubi Borjas, as the Roadrunners snapped an 8-game losing streak with a come-from-behind win over the IEAC leading Mt. San Jacinto Eagles of Menifee (17-9; 8-2), 6-5.

The Roadrunners played against the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles for the first time in program history in 1998 and hold a 26-23 overall record against the Eagles. Desert holds a 16-10 record against the Eagles in Palm Desert.

Freshman right-handed starting pitcher Victoria Talamantes (La Quinta H.S.) tossed her eighth complete game of the season and her fifth game with five strike outs or more, as she scattered five runs over ten hits for her second win of the season in the circle. Freshman shortstop Rebecca Perez (Palm Springs H.S.) had her fifth multi-hit game of the season and scored the game winning run batting out of the two-hole. Freshman first baseman Arissa Gonzalez (Thermal Coachella Valley) had her eighth multi-hit game of the season and sophomore center fielder Rubi Borjas (Thermal Coachella Valley) punched a bloop single to right-center for the game winning hit, scoring Perez from third.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be at home on Friday, April 5th at 12p & 2:30p when the Roadrunners will continue Inland Empire Athletic Conference play by hosting the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines for a double header. The Roadrunners first played against San Bernardino Valley in 1981 and have an overall record of 42-32 against the Wolverines and a 23-13 record at home.
