GLENDALE, Calif. - After a slow start, College of the Desert women's basketball opened the Glendale Vaquero Shootout by defeating the host school 71-54 on Thursday evening in Glendale.
Four Lady Roadrunners scored in the double-figures, led by freshman guard Kelcey Beckham's (Indio, CA/Indio HS) 16 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Freshman center Ashley Preist (Yucca Valley, CA/Yucca Valley HS) also recorded 16 points, converting on eight of her nine shots from the field.
Freshman guard Reina West (San Jacinto, CA/San Jacinto HS) added 11 points and four rebounds, while freshman forward Jerrica Perez (Roswell, GA/Centenial HS) had 10 points.
COD shot 62.2% (28-45) from the field, including 50% (6-12) from behind the three-point line. They committed just 11 turnovers, while converting the 11 Glendale giveaways into 20 points.
College of the Desert (4-2) will take on Cerritos Friday evening at 7 p.m. in the second round of the Glendale Vaquero Shootout.
