Women's Basketball Takes Second in Cuesta Tournament

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- College of the Desert (7-6) women's basketball picked up two wins before falling in the championship game of the Cuesta College Tournament 59-44 to Allan Hancock this past weekend in San Luis Obispo.

After defeating Hartnell 82-72 on Thursday, the Lady Roadrunners took down tournament host, Cuesta, 63-55.  Freshman guard Kelcey Beckham (Indio, CA/Indio HS) was stellar on offense, scoring 26 points on 8-19 shooting (42 percent), while also collecting five steals.  Freshman forward Jerrica Perez (Indio, CA/Shadow Hills HS) scored in double-figures, as well, netting 17 points.

Perez and Beckham again led COD in their tournament championship game loss to Allan Hancock, scoring 15 and 10 points, respectively.  

For their performances, both Perez and Beckham were named to the All-Tournament team.  

College of the Desert will participate in the LA Valley tournament this weekend, as they take on Cypress this Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.
