COD Women’s Basketball grabs first win of 2016 at PCC Tourney

COD (1-4) received their first win of the 2016 season, making their way to the Consolation Final of the PCC President's Roundball Classic in Pasadena.

Desert opened up the annual Roundball Classic against the host Pasadena City Lancers (3-0), falling 108-41. Sophomore starting forward Lexie Jackson (La Quinta H.S.) led the way for the Roadrunners with 18 points, going 7 for 16 from the field, with eight boards, two assists, two steals and one block.

Freshman starting guard Jada Toland (Indio Shadow Hills) put up nine points, going 5 for 6 from the free throw line on the night.

On the Consolation side of the bracket, the Roadrunners faced off with Pacific Coast Athletic Conference-South Division team, the Imperial Valley Arabs (0-2). After one quarter, both teams were tied at 9-9, then Desert opened up the offense and punished Imperial Valley the rest of the afternoon. Once again, Jackson led the way for the Roadrunners, this time with 15 points, going 4 for 10 from three-point range and grabbing seven boards. Toland contributed 10 points on 3 of 7 shooting, leading the team with two assists and four steals and sophomore forward Jerrica Perez (Indio Shadow Hills) came off of the bench to add nine points on 4 of 16 shooting and lead the team in total boards with nine and had three steals in the win.

In the Consolation Championship game, Desert ran into the West Los Angeles Oilers (2-2). While the game was close after the end of the first quarter, the Oilers pulled away in the second and third quarters, then the Roadrunners almost doubled their score in the fourth quarter alone, only to fall, 65-51. Jackson was dominant, as she scored 21 points, going 5 for 8 from beyond the arc, leading the team in total boards with eight and blocked shots with two. Freshman starting guard Mercades Young (Moreno Valley Vista Del Lago) added nine points on 3 of 11 shooting, adding three assists and Toland put up eight points, going 2 for 5 from three-point range, while leading the team in steals and assists.
