COD Women's Basketball sophomore forward Sara Edwards (Palm Desert H.S.) has signed a letter of intent with La Sierra University.

Edwards, who started at Desert during the 2013-14 season, red shirting one season and then taking off another season to work, returned to the team in the 2016-17 season to start in four games, participating in 23 of the 26 contests this past season. Edwards had her best all-around game at home on Sophomore Night against San Bernardino Valley on February 17th, when she scored 10 points and grabbing 7 total rebounds.

Under the tutelage of veteran coach Ronald "Skip" Parry, in his 6th season at the helm, Desert Women's Basketball ended the 2016-2017 season with a record of 6-20 overall and 2-6 in Conference, finishing fourth.

Coach Parry stated, Edwards had "tried out twice for La Sierra University, she contacted me, letting me know that they had offered her. Everybody saw the offer, it's a good offer for her, it's a great school for her. The head coach called me two weeks ago, Brianne Carroll, and had nothing but glowing things to say about Sara."

Edwards stated about her time at Desert, "It's been a wonderful experience, definitely my first year (2013-14 season), was probably my favorite, with all the girls and getting to know each other and chemistry on the team, Coach 'Skip' being Coach 'Skip' and it was fun." Edwards continued with, "I took two years off of basketball just to focus on school and then I came back this last year, and I am really glad I did 'cause I feel like I really grew as an individual and an athlete." 

Edwards on why she chose La Sierra, "When La Sierra University said they wanted me and I went and played for them twice, it was, it was awesome. Definitely nothing but confidence and I can't wait to stay and keep playing."

La Sierra University is located in Riverside. The Golden Eagles play in the Alumni Pavilion Gym and the team is coached by 2nd year head coach, Brianne Carroll. In the 2016-17 season, the Golden Eagles finished 4-10 in conference play ending the season in 6th place, with an overall record of 8-19. La Sierra is in the California Pacific Conference of the NAIA.
