COD Women’s Basketball hires Booker to lead Roadrunners

College of the Desert Women's Basketball has hired Cortney Booker to helm the Roadrunners program.

Booker played 3 years for the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros, finishing in the top 10 in rebounding his senior year. Prior to his collegiate experience, Booker was an All-League high school player with the Millikan Rams.

"I am looking forward to being on the sideline coaching and I am excited to see these student athletes compete, learn, get better, and win," Coach Booker said in a recent interview with COD Athletics.com. "I want to establish a better relationship with all of the high school coaches, players, and personnel in the area. Providing those coaches and future Roadrunners more access to our beautiful campus and facilities. I want to open our gym to high school camps and leagues. I believe with more exposure, along with competing at the highest level, will assist in retaining local talent."

Coach Booker is native of Long Beach, California, where he graduated from Robert A. Millikan Senior H.S. in 1996.

"I am optimistic I can turn those fortunes around with my vision of what Women's Basketball will look like moving forward and I want to build a program that wins for everyone on and off the court," commented Coach Booker. "My student athletes will be fundamentally sound and will compete every day on the court and in the classroom and once they understand how to play this game at the highest level, the wins will be consistent."

After college, Coach Booker led an AAU team, was the head coach at several high schools in Long Beach and Los Angeles, where he won multiple league championships. Coach Booker coached All-League, All-Conference and All-City players, helping those players receive scholarships at 4-year colleges/universities.

Coach Booker was also the lead assistant with the Los Angeles Harbor College Seahawks of Wilmington and was the head coach of the Los Angeles Southwest College Cougars of West Adams.

"I would like the parents and recruits to know that I am a coach who cares about the well-being of each player. My student athletes will know what hard work, dedication, and sacrifice looks like every day in practice and in games," continued Coach Booker. "The Roadrunners will get better one day at a time, one game at a time."
