COD Women’s Basketball plays hard in narrow loss to Warriors, 54-38

COD (0-11) grabbed a season best for scoring in the second quarter and received some fantastic contributions from the starters and the bench, as the Roadrunners played hard in a narrow loss at the El Camino Warriors of Torrance (1-6), 54-38.

Freshman starting guard Jada Virdin (Indio H.S.) led all starters with 11 points on 3 of 9 shooting, going 2 of 5 from beyond 3-point range and shooting 3 of 6 from the free throw line, also grabbing 5 total rebounds, 4 defensive. Freshman guard Amora Williams (Cathedral City Mt. San Jacinto Continuation) would lead the bench with 11 points on 2 of 13 shooting, going an amazing 6 of 7 from the charity stripe, leading the team in blocked shots with 2, grabbing 4 steals and 5 boards, 3 defensive.

Freshman starting guard Esperanza Figueroa (Thermal Coachella Valley) added 8 points on 3 of 15 shooting, leading the team in assists (3) and a season high 5 steals. Freshman forward Rose Butts (Palm Desert H.S.) added 5 points off of the bench, on 2 of 6 shooting, leading the team in total boards (7), 6 defensive and a season high 2 assists. Freshman starting center Natalie Jenkins-Murrell (Desert Hot Springs H.S.) tied a season high in total rebounds with 5 and freshman guard Nicole Torian (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) set a season high with 2 assists.

The Roadrunners next game will be on the road as they face the Imperial Valley Desert Warriors on Tuesday, December 12 at 5p and the next home game for Desert will be on Wednesday, December 20 at 5p as the Roadrunners open up Inland Empire Athletic Conference play against the Palo Verde Pirates of Blythe.
