COD Women’s Golf grabs 6th place finish at North-South Invitational, Veikune is 1st

COD Women's Golf heads to North-South Invational for a preview of CCCAA State Championship course and the team finished 6th and sophomore Lehapi Veikune Taungahihifo (Rancho Mirage H.S.) collected a 1st place individual finish.

The Roadrunners sent four participants to the third invational of the season where Veikune would take the first place individual finish. The sun was out on day one with a high of 92 then dropped to a cool 77 on day two, at the par-72 Hunter Ranch Golf Course in Paso Robles. The event featured six of the eight teams that were in the 2022 CCCAA Women's Golf State Championship, including the State Champions as well as the Individual State Champion from 2022.

Desert would finish with 355 points on day one and 354 on the final day, totaling 709 points for the tournament, which was only 5 strokes ahead of fifth place finisher, The Modesto Pirates. The Mt. San Antonio Mounties would win the event with 652 points. Veikune led the way for the Roadrunners, shooting three-over 75 on day one and then shooting an even-par 72 on day two, for a total score of 147, winning the overall indicual score. Sophomore Jensen Kelly (Imperial (SK) School) would shoot an 86 on day one and an 85 on day two for a total of 171. Freshman Kayla Speer (Yucaipa H.S.), who shot an 87 and an 89 for a total score of 176. Sophomore Samantha Miller (Valley Center H.S.) shot a 107 and a 108 for a total of 215 over the course of the two-day tournament.
