COD Women’s Golf: Bown to lead both Roadrunners Golf programs

College of the Desert Women's Golf has hired Tanner Bown to helm the Roadrunners program.

Coach Bown was hired on August 17, 2023 to lead the COD Men's Golf program and now has been hired to take over the Women's Golf program as well.

"I moved to La Quinta early in my golf career and would practice at the College Golf Center all the time. I remember thinking how this School should be a golf powerhouse because of its location and accessibility to different courses," commented Coach Bown. "Now, I have the opportunity to lead this program to great things and I couldn't be more excited about our future. This school has produced some amazing talent over the years and I plan on working hard to continue this great Roadrunner tradition!"

Coach Bown has had the opportunity to work in golf operations and management at the highest level for the past two decades, while continuing his education in prominent areas. Coach Bown played four years of award-winning golf with the St. Cloud State University Huskies in St. Cloud, Minnesota while earning a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management. After internships with the PGA and USGA, Tanner continued his education with a Master's Degree in Sports Administration from the Canisius College Golden Griffins in Buffalo, New York, earning a 3.96 GPA along the way.

"Outreach and communication is the goal. I want to work with these High School Golf Coaches to get our message across - Come to College of the Desert and let's build up the Student-Athlete," Coach Bown said in a recent interview with COD Athletics.com. "Here we can introduce the individual to college schooling, Tournament experience and then move them on to bigger things. There is less pressure on the Student-Athlete when they start small. I believe it can be the framework for a successful young adult."

Coach Bown has worked with a number of golf entities since graduating, with roles ranging from Director of Operations to General Manager. These organizations and companies include The Minikahda Club in Minneapolis, The Quarry at La Quinta, The First Tee, MacGregor Golf, College Athlete Advantage, and Links Players International.

"I am a coach who values hard work, communication, and routine. These are important tools for not only golf but life. I will help these Student-Athletes become more balanced in their day-to-day life," commented Coach Bown.

In 2015, Coach Bown founded the Las Vegas Junior Golf Association and the Southern Nevada College Prep Tour, organizations that help junior golfers follow their passion and prepare them for the next steps. When Coach Bown isn't working, he enjoys golfing and traveling with his wife, Crissie, and their dog, Stella.

"I'm looking forward to competing, plain and simple. I love competition and I am really looking forward to getting these young women to perform at the top of their game, day in and day out," continued Coach Bown.
