Roadrunners Nab First Victory In Soccer

Vanessa Caudillo recorded a hat trick, College of the Desert recorded a shutout and the Roadrunners secured their first win of the season in girls' soccer, with a 9-0 win over El Camino-Compton Center Friday evening at Boone Field in Palm Desert.

Caudillo opened up the scoring in the 18th minute when she out dribbled the El Camino goaltender. Goals then by Natalie Castillo in the 20th (assisted by Caudillo), and in the 23rd minute by Melita Pena, who stole a pass from the ECC defender before putting it away. Just before the intermission, Madison Decker put COD up, 4-0.

Caudillo added a second goal on an assist from Decker in the 48th minute made it 5-0. Pena then added two more goals, and defender Tiana Kubtiz added two in the 80th minute and 85th minute assisted by Analise Anzaldua & Sydney Hannibal.

The Roadrunners (1-3-1) preserved the shutout with starter Britney Vargas and Maranda Palmer in goal, totaling five saves on the night. COD plays next on Tuesday at San Bernardino on the road.
