COD Women’s Soccer falls to Wolverines, 3-0

COD (1-6; 0-2) took on the #15 ranked team in the nation and played a second half shut out, but three goals by the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines (6-1; 2-0) in the first half proved to be the difference, as the Roadrunners fell, 3-0.

Sophomore starting goal keeper Maranda Palmer (Twentynine Palms H.S.) was under pressure for most of the match, facing 31 shots and making 13 saves, including 10 in the second half alone.

San Bernardino Valley would draw first blood as they scored on a breakaway in the 6th minute and then added to that lead in the 25th minute on the same exact play and shot location. In the first half injury time, the Wolverines found the back of the net for a third and final time.

The second half was a stalemate as neither team could break through, although the Roadrunners did take seven of their nine total shots in the second half. Freshman midfielder Henessy Pena (Cathedral City H.S.) led the team with two shots on goal on the afternoon.
