COD Women’s Soccer falls to Eagles, 2-1

COD (1-8; 0-4) faced an offensive assault, but turned away 11 of 13 shots on goal and tied the game on Maira Fuentes' first goal of the season, but the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles (3-4-1; 2-1-1) were too much for the home side, as the Roadrunners fell, 2-1.

Both teams went into halftime tied at 0-0, with the Eagles outshooting the Roadrunners, 13 to 2 and sophomore starting goal keeper Maranda Palmer (Twentynine Palms H.S.) making six saves.

Five minutes into the second half, Mt. San Jacinto knocked in a blooper goal in front of the keeper, which bounced around a couple of times and found its way into the back of the net, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.

In the 65th minute, sophomore forward Melita Pena (La Quinta H.S.) ran down the right side of the field and attempted a sliding cross to both freshman midfielder Maira Fuentes (Thermal Desert Mirage) and freshman midfielder Elizabeth Trujillo (Cathedral City H.S.). Fuentes skipped the pass right under the outstretched arms of the Eagles keeper to level the score at 1-1.
