COD (7-7-2; 3-2-1) swept the season series and Alexi Mejia scored twice as the Roadrunners rolled up the San Diego Miramar Jets (2-9-3; 1-5-2), 3-1. 

With the Jets only traveling with 12 players, the Roadrunners took advantage of the rare mid-fall heatwave and within the first ten minutes, sophomore midfielder Alexi Mejia (La Quinta H.S.) had found the back of the net. Mejia received a pass from former Blackhawks teammates, freshman forward Reanna Rivera (La Quinta H.S.) and sophomore forward Jiana Guerrero (La Quinta H.S.) and poked a shot around the post and into the back of the net for the first score of the afternoon. Giving the Roadrunners the early 1-0 lead.

In the 35th minute, a Miramar player was being attended to by the Roadrunners training staff, which led to an impromptu water break, and after four minutes neither team knew what was going on, considering that the Jets player had already left the field. Apparently, it was just enough of a water break to considerably improve the chances for Miramar as they scored an equalizer in the 39th minute, tying the game at 1-1.

Just before halftime, freshman defender Yesenia Torres (Thermal Desert Mirage) lifted a shot from about 20 yards out, which caught the Jets keeper completely out of position and even though the Miramar keeper jumped as high as she could, Torres' shot sailed just between the crossbar and the fingertips of the net minder, giving Desert a 2-1 lead at the break.

In the 60th minute, Mejia would score her second goal on a deflection off of a Guerrero rocket into the Jets keeper. The Guerrero shot came in from the right of the keeper and ricocheted to her immediate left, where Mejia was following and Mejia poked in her second goal of the afternoon.

Freshman starting goal keeper Kaylin Eastman (Indio Shadow Hills) played the first half in net for Desert and freshman goal keeper Marqisha Zamudio-Ontiveros (Thermal Coachella Valley) wrapped things up.

Going into the 2018 season, the Roadrunners had never defeated the Jets in program history before, with an all-time record of 0-7-1 and now they've swept the season series.

The next home game for Desert is Tuesday, when they host the Palomar Comets of San Marcos on, October 30 at 1 p.m. The last time these two teams met, the game was earlier this season at the Comets on September 18th and ended in a 2-1 Desert victory, the win was only the second time the Roadrunners had defeated Palomar in program history. On Tuesday, they have a chance to sweep the season series for the first time ever, be there for history.
