COD Women’s Soccer rolls, in clean sheet over Coyotes, 8-0

COD (9-3; 5-0) took the over three hour drive up to Ridgecrest, but the lengthy drive did not dampen the Roadrunners offense as Desert walloped the winless Cerro Coso Coyotes (0-11; 0-5), 8-0.

Freshman midfielder Monserrath Bedolla-Guzman (Thermal Coachella Valley) had her first goals of the season and the first multi-goal game of the season and freshman forward Citlalli Ponce (Indio Shadow Hills) had her first multi-assist game of the season as the Roadrunners jumped out to a lead mid-way through the first half and never looked back.

Desert has played the Coyotes seven times since Cerro Coso added Women's Soccer in 2013 and the Roadrunners have won all seven games by a combined score of 55-3. All but one of the games have been clean sheets.

The Roadrunners got things going in the 23rd minute when freshman forward Yisel Ybarra (Thermal Desert Mirage) was fouled in the box and sophomore defender Anaya Guerrero (La Quinta H.S.) converted the penalty kick, giving Desert a 1-0 lead.

In the 30th minute, sophomore midfielder Isabel Alvarez (Indio Shadow Hills) found Bedolla-Guzman for her first goal of the afternoon and the Roadrunners took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

In the 65th minute, Bedolla-Guzman had her second goal of the day, on an assist from Ponce, giving Desert a 3-0 advantage.

Moments later, in the 67th minute, freshman midfielder Eva Lupita Torres (Thermal Coachella Valley) had her first goal of the season on an assist from Ponce and freshman midfielder Jasmine Hernandez (Thermal Coachella Valley).

In the 69th minute, after a foul in the goal box on Hernandez, freshman defender Britny Gutierrez (Desert Hot Springs H.S.) converted the penalty kick opportunity and gave the Roadrunners a 5-0 lead.

In the 77th minute, freshman midfielder Alexia Ortiz (Thermal Coachella Valley) found freshman midfielder Karina Arechiga (Palm Springs H.S.) for Arechiga's first goal of the season and giving Desert a 6-0 lead.

Off of a free kick in the 81st minute, Alvarez grabbed her third goal of the season on assists from

sophomore midfielder Mariela Orozco (Desert Hot Springs H.S.) and freshman midfielder Zaynah Cortez (Palm Springs H.S.).

In the 88th minute, freshman midfielder Narali Lopez (Cathedral City H.S.) connected with sophomore midfielder Denise Hernandez (Palm Springs H.S.) to give Hernandez her second goal of the season, making the score 8-0.

Freshman goal keeper Unica Carrizoza-Lawson (La Quinta H.S.) had a relatively boring day in net, her defense did not allow her to see a single shot, let alone a shot on goal all afternoon.
