COD Women’s Soccer gets back on track, knocks off Rams, 3-0

COD (10-5; 6-1) got back on track with a strong win under difficult weather conditions, as the Roadrunners grabbed only their third win at Victorville in program history, defeating the Victor Valley Rams (1-5-2; 2-11-2), 3-0.

The wind was hard and the temperatures got colder as the afternoon dragged on, but the Roadrunners got a little closer to parity by winning on the road.

The Roadrunners played the Victor Valley Rams for the first time in program history in 1998 and are now 11-24-5 all-time against Victor Valley. Desert has an 3-13-4 record against the Rams in Victorville.

Desert got onto the scoreboard in the 8th minute, when sophomore midfielder Ashley Murguia (Indio H.S.) lifted a corner kick up to sophomore forward Jasmine Castillo (Indio Shadow Hills), who scored her 12th goal of the season and gave the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead.

That 1-0 lead would hold through halftime as freshman goal keeper Jessica Uribe (Indio Shadow Hills) would once again have a good day in net for the Roadrunners.

In the second half, Desert would get things going about 12 minutes in, when in the 57th minute Murguia, once again, found Castillo, who poked the pass to sophomore midfielder Isabel Alvarez (Indio Shadow Hills) for her 4th goal of the season, giving the Roadrunners a 2-0 advantage.

Moments later, in the 59th minute, Castillo would steal a pass right in front of the Rams net and pound the shot attempt into the back of the net for her 13th goal of the season and giving Desert a 3-0 lead.

Freshman goal keeper Narali Lopez (Cathedral City H.S.) would finish off the final six minutes in net to preserve the seventh clean sheet of the 2021 season.

The next home game for Desert is on Friday, October 27th against the San Diego Miramar Jets. The Roadrunners first played San Diego Miramar in 2008 and have an 2-7-1 record against the Jets, including 1-3 record in Palm Desert.  The last time Desert defeated the Jets was in 2018, by a score of 1-0 in Palm Desert.
