COD Women’s Soccer fights off the pesky Eagles, 2-0

COD Women’s Soccer fights off the pesky Eagles, 2-0

It always seems that when these two teams meet up, regardless of record, it is always a hard-fought match-up between two rivals, as was the case this afternoon.

The Roadrunners played the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles for the first time in program history in 1997 and are now 8-26-6 all-time against Mt. San Jacinto. Desert has a 6-14-1 record against the Eagles in Palm Desert.

Once again, freshman goal keeper Jessica Uribe (Indio Shadow Hills) and the defense in front of her performed brilliantly, as Uribe collected her seventh clean sheet and the Roadrunners received their ninth of the season.

Desert would get things started in the 40th minute as sophomore defender Anaya Guerrero (La Quinta H.S.) took a free kick from about 40 yards out and scored. The wobbly effort was too confounding for the Mt. San Jacinto keeper and the Roadrunners took a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, sophomore midfielder Ashley Murguia (Indio H.S.) converted a penalty kick into a goal in the 52nd minute as Desert would take a 2-0 lead.

The next game for Desert is on Tuesday, November 2nd at the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines. The Roadrunners first played San Bernardino Valley in 1998 and have an 11-28-5 record against the Wolverines, including 3-14-2 record in San Bernardino. The next home game for Desert is Sophomore Day on Friday, November 5th against the Cerro Coso Coyotes. The Roadrunners first played Cerro Coso in 2013 and have a 7-0 record against the Coyotes, including a 3-0 record in Palm Desert.
