COD Women’s Tennis: Stepien signs with Portland State

COD Women's Tennis sophomore Claudia Stepien (Palm Desert H.S.) has signed a letter of intent with the Portland State University Vikings.

The two-year Roadrunner from Palm Desert High School was named to the All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference in singles and was named PCAC Most Outstanding Player. Stepien finished the 2019 regular season with an undefeated singles record of 12-0 and a doubles record of 11-1 with partner freshman Karla Munoz (Rancho Mirage H.S.). Stepien was ranked 3rd in her singles bracket as she would finish her last season with Desert at the quarter finals of the CCCAA State Championships.

Under second-year head coach Morgan McIntosh, the Roadrunners finished the season with an overall record of 9-3 and conference record of 5-2. Desert grabbed second place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference before sending three pairs and Stepein to the CCCAA State Championships.  

Portland State University is located in Oregon and serves more than 27,000 students. Portland State offers over 200 degrees, certificates, and credentials. The Vikings compete in 13 sports and are a NCAA Division I program that competes in the Big Sky Conference. Under 11th year head coach Hay Sterling, the Vikings completed the 2018-2019 season with an overall record of 5-10 and a conference record of 2-8.
