COD Volleyball sophomore middle blocker Aaliyah Muhammad (Los Angeles Westchester) has signed a letter of intent with University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The 6-0, sophomore from Westchester Enriched Sciences Magnets High School in Los Angeles played one season with the Roadrunners after spending her freshman season with the Thunderbirds at Casper College in Wyoming. Muhammad was awarded All-Inland Empire Athletic Conference (IEAC) Honorable Mention after leading the team with 70 total blocks, including 37 solo blocks and 33 assisted blocks on the season. She had her best offensive game in a sweep of Santa Monica College on September 7, 2019, grabbing 8 kills in 11 attempts in the first match of the OCC Tri. Muhammad's best defensive game was at Victor Valley on November 6, 2019, where she had 3 solo blocks and 3 block assists in a lopsided sweep of their IEAC foe.

According to an interview which aired on webcenterfairbanks.com, UAF Nanooks volleyball Head Coach Brian Scott stated, "As we watched film, we really liked a couple of different things. One, is that she has this great lateral movement and that's important for a middle blocker."

"We are very excited to add a student-athlete of Aaliyah's caliber to our team," Scott said on Monday. "She is very athletic middle blocker that can immediately make our gym stronger in that position. In addition to being a talented athlete, Aaliyah is a great individual, whose character will make our program better. We are anxious to add her to our talented squad."

University of Alaska Fairbanks is located in Fairbanks, Alaska. The UAF Nanooks play on the Alaska Airlines Court in the UAF Gymnasium and the team is coached by 2nd year head coach, Brian Scott. In the 2019 season, the Nanooks were 12-8 in conference play finishing 5th, with an overall record of 15-13. Alaska Fairbanks is in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) of the NCAA Division Two.
