COD Women’s Volleyball rolls past Panthers, 3-1

COD (7-9; 3-1) dropped their first set, then dominated in the next three as the Roadrunners played their tenth game on the road, defeating the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga (3-12; 0-2), 3-1 (16-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-15).

The Roadrunners played against the Chaffey Panthers for the first time in program history in 1976 and hold a 31-31 overall record against the Panthers. Desert has a 12-18 record against the Panthers in Rancho Cucamonga.

Freshman setter Ashley Estrada (Queen Creek (AZ) American Leadership Academy) led the team with 13 assists and added 2 assist blocks and freshman middle blocker Stacie Alexander (Yucca Valley H.S.) added 5 assist blocks and 3 kills. Freshman middle blocker Ashlin Kretz (Rancho Mirage H.S.) added 2 solo blocks and 3 kills and sophomore outside hitter Melanie Hernandez (Thermal Coachella H.S.) led the team with 15 digs and 5 kills. Freshman setter Vivianna Hernandez (Thermal Desert Mirage H.S.) added 6 assists and freshman outside hitter Bella Branconier (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) led the team with 12 kills, adding 6 digs and 2 assist blocks. Sophomore libero Briana Delval (Indio H.S.) led the team with 8 service aces and added 8 digs.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be on the road at the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville on October 13. The Roadrunners played against Victor Valley for the first time in program history in 1976 and hold a 20-40 overall record against the Rams. Desert has an 8-22 record against the Rams in Victorville. The next home game for the Roadrunners will be on October 20, when Desert hosts the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles. Desert first competed against the Eagles in 1984 and hold an 42-22 overall record against them. The Roadrunners hold a 22-10 record against the Eagles in Palm Desert.
