COD Women's Volleyball sweeps past the Panthers, 3-0

COD (8-12; 4-4) received big contributions from everyone, as the Roadrunners collected their 4th sweep of the season, pushing past the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga (6-15; 3-5), 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-21).

The Roadrunners played against Chaffey for the first time in program history in 1976 and hold a 32-31 overall record against them after defeating the Panthers in Rancho Cucamonga on October 4th, 3-1 (16-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-15). The Roadrunners hold a 20-13 record against the Panthers in Palm Desert.

Sophomore outside hitter Melanie Hernandez (Thermal Coachella Valley) tied for the team lead with 2 service aces, had 10 digs, 5 kills, an assist block and a solo block and freshman outside hitter Bella Branconier (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) led the team with 13 kills, had a solo block and 7 digs. Freshman setter Ashley Estrada (Queen Creek (AZ) American Leadership Academy) led the team with 26 set assists and grabbing 6 digs and freshman right side Sarah Nieto (La Quinta H.S.) tied for the team lead with 3 assist blocks, had 4 kills and a service ace. Freshman middle blocker Stacie Alexander (Yucca Valley H.S.) tied for the team lead with 3 assist blocks, had 4 kills and a solo block and freshman middle blocker Ashlin Kretz (Rancho Mirage H.S.) had 4 kills, an assist block and a solo block. Sophomore defensive specialist Liana Whitley (Palm Desert H.S.) had 5 digs and sophomore libero Briana Delval (Indio H.S.) led the team with 11 digs and tied for the team lead with 2 service aces.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will at home hosting the Copper Mountain Fighting Cacti of Joshua Tree on November 1 as a part of a day-night double header. The Roadrunners played against Copper Mountain for the first time in program history in 2022 and hold a 2-0 overall record against the Fighting Cacti. Desert has a 1-0 record against the Fighting Cacti in Palm Desert.
