COD Women's Volleyball sweeps the Fighting Cacti again, 3-0

COD (10-12; 6-4) had a balanced day from key players, as the Roadrunners collected their 4th consecutive sweep of their opponents and their 5th sweep of the season, pushing past the Copper Mountain Fighting Cacti of Joshua Tree (0-12; 0-9), 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-9).

The Roadrunners played against Copper Mountain for the first time in program history in 2022 and hold a 4-0 overall record against them after defeating the Fighting Cacti in Joshua Tree on October 30th, 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-19). The Roadrunners hold a 2-0 record against the Fighting Cacti in Palm Desert.

Sophomore outside hitter Melanie Hernandez (Thermal Coachella Valley) led the team with 8 kills and 3 digs and freshman setter Ashley Estrada (Queen Creek (AZ) American Leadership Academy) led the team with 10 digs, 14 set assists, and 2 service aces. Freshman middle blocker Stacie Alexander (Yucca Valley H.S.) had 2 block assists and added 6 kills and freshman setter Vivianna Hernandez (Thermal Desert Mirage) had 3 service aces and 8 set assists. Freshman defensive specialist Itzel Solorio (Twentynine Palms H.S.) had 3 service aces and added 3 digs and freshman right side Sarah Nieto (La Quinta H.S.) had 6 kills and a block assist. Freshman libero Sophia Gilbert (Palm Desert H.S.) had 3 service aces and added 5 digs and freshman outside hitter Arianna Hernandez (Thermal Desert Mirage) had 6 kills and added 1 dig.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be on the road at the Santa Monica Corsairs on November 3rd. The Roadrunners played against Santa Monica for the first time in program history in 1988 and hold a 1-2 overall record against the Corsairs. Desert has never played at the Corsairs in Santa Monica. The next home game for the Roadrunners will be on November 8, when Desert hosts the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville. Desert first competed against Victor Valley in 1976 and hold an 20-41 overall record against them after falling to the Rams in Victorville on October 13th, 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-12, 25-19). The Roadrunners hold a 12-18 record against the Rams in Palm Desert.
