Women's Basketball Picks Up Gutsy Conference Win Against Victor Valley

On January 14, 2015 the College of the Desert women's basketball team defeated conference foe, Victor Valley, 64-58 in their annual Coaches vs. Cancer event.

In picking up their first Foothill Conference win, the Lady Roadrunners were led by a valiant effort from guard Lyla Meza.  Meza, who had just returned to action after suffering a severe concussion, scored 15 points on 6-14 (43 percent) shooting, while also securing six rebounds and three crucial steals.

Ruby Carrillo paced COD with 18 points and seven rebounds, with Cindy Saldana adding 15 points of her own.  The Lady Roadrunners shot 50 percent (24-48) from the field, and committed only seven turnovers throughout.  Despite Victor Valley outrebounding Skip Parry's squad 50-32, COD outgunned them from behind the three-point line, shooting 9-23 (39 percent).

The Lady Roadrunners set season-bests in shooting percentage (50 percent) and turnovers (seven), while Meza's point total marked her season-high.
